After inviting 32 home based players to Black Stars camp, coach C. K. Akonnor is set to prune down his squad, reliable sources have revealed. The decision to trim the squad, follows a thorough assessment of the players, since commencing training on Monday.
The coach, having kept an eagle eye on the squad – less Asante Kotoko players – is technically convinced that some may have to make way, for the rest to be concentrated on.
The entire department, that is, from goalkeeping to striking, will see a drop in numbers.
The players will be allowed to join their colleagues at club level and honor their league matches this weekend. According to the source, some of them may not come back after a thorough appraisal.
After playing ES Setif in Algeria this weekend, the reverse fixture of CAF Confederation Cup playoff, Asante Kotoko players will have the opponent to be assessed as well.
How The Squad Will Be Pruned Down
With the number of invited players, four goalkeepers were handed a call up. Coach C. K. Akonnor and his henchmen look to maintain two and allow two to go.
Out of five central defenders invited, three will stay and the remaining released.
With four full backs available, they may all be maintained if other players are not able to show up.
Seven defensive midfielders are on the list but five will be released from camp.
On the attacking options, out of five players invited, three may remain in camp.
The strikers invited numbered seven, but only three are in a pole position to be kept.
These are the numbers coach C. K. Akonnor intend to keep whilst waiting for the arrival of foreign based players.
Those source also indicated, the coach may maintain chunk of the local players if those abroad, are not able to turn up for the assignment ahead.
